Not really finished - are you ever finished reading the Bible? - but have had it long enough to review.I had the older hardback with the (not Thompson's) chain reference system from when the NIV first came out, which was very good.The pseudo-leather is rather good. I had read reviews of miss cut pages, pages falling out on first use, missing chapters and the binding falling apart. They seemed to have fixed this as this one is very sturdy and assembled right. Big and heavy though. Do read it at a desk or table. Opens flat.They did do the gender inclusive words correctly, not in the outrageous politically correct way that they had originally threatened to use.The changes to verses do all seem to be improvements in accuracy. Without losing the ease of reading.And for once Zondervan actually gives a large print that is actually LARGE.The dictionary at the rear is only useful if you have never read the Bible before.

I am experiencing declining vision as I have diabetes and am 70 years of age. I can read this Bible without straining my eyes. Some reviewers seem to dislike the height of this volume. It doesn't bother me as I like to read with the Bible propped against the edge of my desk. That position is comfortable for me. However, I would not choose this as my "carry to church" Bible due to the weight and large size. The turquoise color is pretty. I am quite pleased with this purchase.

I purchased this bible for myself and returned it. The color was beautiful, I just feel like it was not put together very well. It was very flimsy (as most softbacks are) but I felt as if all the pages were about to fall out. I will be getting a hardback instead!

I am very disappointed that I have to pay over 8.00 to return this book. The book was too large for me and to heavy. It was bound beautifully. Some of the pages were larger that the others and had been tucked or creased to look as if they were the same size. Pages are very flimsy

I enjoyed this cookbook...not for how to cook eggs I've been doing that forever... but I wanted inspiration. I love Frittatas but was going stale on the topic. Enjoyed the recipes for various scrambles, omelets, strata, frittatas, quiches...just needed some new pictures and ideas to get me going. Eggs make such a quick, economical and easy to proportion meal perfect whether cooking for 1 or 12 people.

Lovely colorful cover. Inside no photos. Repetitive type types and all assume oven baking not Fratatta makers.

I like the simplicity and the ease of following these recipes. It is easy to mix and match as well as substitute.

 This book is published by DK is an encompassing look at sketching. It's not an instructional book although you can get lots of ideas from looking at the classic and contemporary drawings included. Some of the sketches are from artist Sarah Simblet, and others from a myriad of artists.There isn't much covered on the techniques. While there are topics like composition, light and shadow or perspective, they are mainly to introduce such concepts to beginners.The book is heavy on subjects. The main chapters are on animals, botany, architecture, still life, body, portraits, costumes, imagination and many more.It's a general guide to sketching and understanding the different sides to it. It's a bit too general for me though. For drawing books, I prefer those that are dedicated to specific subjects.It's an interesting book to flip through, and isn't too expensive.The US version of this book is "Sketch Book for the Artist". There's another edition with British English called "The Drawing Book".(There are more pictures of the book on my blog. Just visit my Amazon profile for the link.)

If you can have only one book on drawing, make it this one. By drawing I mean basic skills. IF you study this book, I mean really make a study of this book, you will after about six months, emerge with serious drawing/drafting chops that you can take anywhere from there. Spend one month on each chapter, reading and doing and re-doing everything she suggests and copying everything else. Do this a few hours per day, starting with a warm up of previous work and cool down of the same to keep those skills up, and you will find all that comes after is easy. In addition, your fundamentals will be sound and you will have the confidence to draw anything. This won't make you a "pro", but will set you on the track to that, limited only by your natural ability. By this I mean that all things considered, some people can just do somethings better but only initially. Eventually everyone hits the wall, even the most talented, it's just that they hit the wall first. And this is where work evens the playing field, because effort beats talent over time BUT ONLY IF talent doesn't practice. The good news is, the talented rarely practice as much, they are used to getting things easily, so they yield to resistance. This is great news for the rest of us, who can just push along until we have 'pro' level skill (called MASTERY), at which point talent maters less than courage and spirit -- that is the desire to really use the acquired ability to say something worthwhile. Talent is just a head start. BUT this book will help you maximize the tools you need to neutralize the talent advantage of others and maximize your efforts. Great book by a great artist.

I read a review or two on here that said this book was a glorified sketchbook of the author. I find that unfair. There are sketches and drawings that the author did, but you have to acually read the book, not just look at the pictures. Sarah breaks the book up into chapters, with each chapter giving you a bit of art history, introducing you to a few artists, introducing you to a material, and giving you a lesson or two to try yourself. Each chapter builds on the next.What I love most about it is that she really encourages you to use your imagination. She gives you tools, building blocks, but she wants you to then use those tools to create your own vision. I highly recommend this book to those just starting out, and to the seasoned artist that maybe needs a fresh approach.

Based on the description I thought it would give you actual drawing lessons, but it's more of an overview of different techniques. There's very few actual sketching lessons in it and a lot of discussions of what artists did in different art pieces. It's still a very good book. It's just more of a exploration of different pieces of art.

I have owned this book for 3 years, bought from Amazon. I have found it to be one of the best and most inspiring books on sketching to come along. Not only is it crammed full of well-reproduced works by masters with detailed descriptions of the steps each artist took, but Ms. Simblet is thorough and yet most instructive in the "how" of each technique. She encourages the use of imagination via her own wonderful drawings; shows shortcuts to "seeing" such things as "negative" space and spherical shapes, perspective, etc. and covers the full range of artists including many contemporaries I had never heard of (many are English artists). Her writing style is that of an experienced teacher who knows how to communicate! SHe also covers the gamut of materials for the artist, going beyond the traditional pencil, charcoal, and pen & ink.

I own just about every drawing book and have learned a little from each one. What makes this one stand out is the beautiful artwork in it. I found it inspiring. Instead of looking at the pictures wishing I could do something like that, I took my supplies out and actually tried them. Of course they turned out almost as good as the pictures in the book....NOT! But the point is that this book was a good motivator to give it a go and learn so that the next one will be better. IF you're looking for a beginners how to book, I would suggest you pass on this one for now only because I think it's a book you will appreciate more once you have been drawing for a while. It's a great book for inspiration and I think if you team this with Danny Gregory's "Illustrated Life" you will find endless inspiration and ideas to get you going.

Checked this book out from the Library but was so impressed I had to buy it. Got it for a fantastic price and have used it often since receiving it. You won't be disappointed if you need better ideas about drawing and lots of pictures for examples. Would help any artist, from beginner to intermediate.

About the Author

Jill Norman is a respected author and editor with a wide knowledge and appreciation of foods from many parts of the world. In the 1970s she created the food and wine list for Penguin Books. This led to travels in pursuit of food and drink, and a passion to discover the origins of herbs and spices and how they are used. She is acknowledged internationally as an authority on herbs and spices. The Complete Book of Spices won awards in the United States and the United Kingdom, and the first edition of Herbs and Spices was honored by the German Academy of Gastronomy. All of her books have been widely translated. Jill Norman was Elizabeth David's publisher and is now literary trustee of the David estate.

Awesome illustrated book and tons of knowledge. It also shows all types of spices found mostly in the Western Continent, but some that are found in other countries and that exist. The categories sets them apart too in terms of taste, and what it is used for in cooking and baking.

The format of Herbs and Spices is wonderful, and the content is - well, let's just say that it's wonderful depending on what you are looking for.We considered several herb books before selecting this one. There are other that are more detailed. Some that are health-oriented. Still more that focus on gardening. All good, all interesting. What we wanted, however, was a useful, but still survey-level reference with a cooking focus. Herbs and Spices is just that, with a page or two for each entry. Notes on scent and taste are included, as well as references to typical dishes (nothing oddball here). All usable parts of each plant are covered. Notes on purchasing and storing are included with each entry. GOOD pictures of each herb are included as well. In short, a compact reference with an instantly understandable and usable format.Highly recommended.

I have used this book so many times. It is better than going on the computer to research herbs and plants. I absolutely love all the information, pictures, suggestions for growing and storing. I would recommend this book for all cooks, gardeners and anyone who has a passion for great food. It would also make a great gift for any of your friends. Thanks so much for a beautiful and educational book!

It is ok, but not what I was looking for. I was looking for more of a how spices and herbs blend for the book to explain what spices complement each other and which combinations to avoid. I was also looking for advice of good substitutes if you can't find the actual spice or herb. The organization of the book isn't well explained either, I cannot figure out what the page colors mean or if they mean anything at all. The book is very informative and I did gain a lot of knowledge but I do not keep it in the kitchen as a reference.

I just received this book and I'm impressed beyond my expectations. This is not only a beautifully photographed book, but it's well organized, thoughtfully put together and extremely well researched. I can't imagine ever needing to buy another book on herbs and spices.I don't write very many reviews, but I had to on this one because I was sooooo happy to have purchased it for my small cookbook library.Buy this book!!!!! You won't be sorry.Congratulations to the author on this wonderful book and thank you for writing it!

Wow. This book may have left out a few herbs and spices hidden deep in the Amazon Jungle but otherwise it is unbelievably comprehensive. Items that I would never have known existed accompanied by the dishes for which they are most effective.

Thorough description of many herbs and spices, and their many uses, and even grow information for those lucky enough to have the time, and the place to grow their own. A nice buy for those searching for applicable uses of different spices and herbs for culinary applications. Nice photos are a plus. 4 Stars.

About the Author

David Frawley has been a student of Ramana Maharashi’s teachings since 1970 and has written for their magazine The Mountain Path since 1978. He is a visitng professor at the Sringeri Shankaracharya Math, the oldest vedantic center in India, and has receive the personal blessings of the Shankaracharya. He teaches at Vedantic centers in America and is one of the few Westerns recognized as an authentic Vedantic teacher by the Vishva Hindu Parisha, the largest Hindu religious organization in the world. Excellent book on Vedanta for both beginners and advanced practitioners, Frawley writes clear, concise and very helpful descriptions and insights on this most ancient of belief systems. I have a library of over 1000 spiritual books and this one is in my regular rotation of Top 20 Books for -re-reading on a regular basis, since the mind continues to always fall back into its old habitual patterns of egocentric thinking, one must be vigilant in taming the monkey mind and its fascination with the illusory, material world. This book, coupled with regular daily meditation practice will go a long way toward realization.

Sincere in tone, lucid in style, Dr Frawley's book on Veda is a wonderful study on the subject for the new comer and a book that is concise in outlining concepts for further study and introspection for those that are more familiar.Of particular note is the clarity of the presentation in drawing distinctions between Buddhism and Veda (as well as similarities),explaining key points made by great individuals such as Ramana Maharshi,Krishnamurti and others, delving into key psychological concepts allowing one to see how Jung was readily influenced by these teachings, where a Freud would not be, and while Adler's disbelief in ego would allow for a "guiding fiction" jiving well with the eternal Self if taken either as a reality or an idea. Social interest and harmony with ALL remains the goal, This Is It.Not to fall into illusion which can be labelled neurosis, bad faith or inauthenticity is a worthwhile pursuit no matter how it is classified.A wonderful introduction and a sincere work.

This is a fine work on the art on awareness and the unknown, and clinging to the known. I find David Frawley a western treasure, that has provided otherwise inaccessible access to Vedic Sanskrit knowledge and practices especially mantra yoga. This is not a long book but I find gems in each of Frawley's books that I have found no where else. Thank you David Frawley.

This is a wonderful book for all meditators and those curious about the roots of meditation in the yoga tradition. It is inspiring, simple to understand and to read, just great. Thank you, Dr. Frawley, for sharing your insight.

I purchased Prague Self-Guided Walks: Old Town (Kindle Version) in 2015 as my wife and I were preparing for our first visit to Prague. As I studied it, the detailed descriptions enabled me to take a "virtual tour" before we arrived. On our first day in Prague, we took a live tour which was difficult to absorb at the guide's breakneck pace. The next day we returned to Old Town with my cell phone and Kindle app in hand. As we began our self-guided walk, I realized how much better our experience was compared to the live tour. We could proceed at a leisurely pace and the directions were easy to follow, with a level of detail that allowed us to discover and explore to our hearts' content. After a while we felt like kids on a treasure hunt! The author's love for her adopted city shone through in her narrative and she pointed out historical gems that we might have missed with a live guide. I highly recommend this book. In fact we are returning to Prague in September 2016 and my wife and I look forward to exploring the Lesser Quarter with Kristi Bryce's guide.

Romanesque, Baroque, Gothic, Deco, Art Nouveau, Art Deco....all sounds "Greek" to me. When I have friends visit Prague while I'm doing a longer-term stay there, I reach for this guide and its companion books to show them around and act like a true Renaissance Man around town. The walking maps are well laid out and efficiently cover the interesting sights and provide succinct background and description. In foodie talk...more in line with my special interests (especially, Czech beer) ;-)...if you "pair" these guides with the author's Prague Restaurant Guide, first-time and repeat visitors will have a deeper and richer sense of the city and its past and present character.

Perfect. This book allowed me to make a wonderfully informative self-guided tour of old Prague. If you're going for the first time and have an interest in architecture, history, and art, I highly recommend taking a copy of this little book along and following the route it recommends through the city. Well worth the money.

When I get to a new city I like to do a walk around to see the major sites, get acquainted with the neighborhood and, hopefully, find some hidden treats. This is the perfect guide book for doing this!Krysti leads you through the Old Town pointing out all the significant sights with the historical significance of each. Then she adds in hidden alleys, some wonderful interiors that we would have missed and some of the quirky outdoor art that studs Prague.Krysti' s knowledge of Prague' s history, architecture and food is extensive and enriches this walk. Highly recommended!As the other reviewers have said, as good as this book is, the very best thing is to treat yourself to a personal tour guided by Krysti Brice!

Consistent with her other self-guided walks, we found the book to be well done. It felt as if Krysti were right there with us. Her instructions on where to turn and what to look for were precise and the level of detail was very appropriate for a walking tour. I would highly recommend the book.

Last summer my family and I were priviledged to visit Prague and spend time with Krysti Brice. She is so knowledgeable about the city and took us to many of the places mentioned in this booklet. Her guidebook has much more information on places to see and eat and things to do. I was interested in reading more about the history of the sites we had visited in Old Town, so I bought this version for my Kindle. I love the pictures! She posts many pictures of the city on her Facebook page and on her website exclusivepraguetours.com. If you are planning a visit to Prague, be sure to contact Krysti and arrange for her to show you around!

I will probably review it better after using this book in Prague. Right now I disappointed in quality of maps-- you need a magnifying glass to be able to see where to go...

We were recommended to Krysti by the author of another Prague guide book. We hired her as a private guide to explore Kutna Hora. Before our trip she also suggested we check out her self-guided walks. We purchased the Old Town and Lesser Quarter self-guided walking tours and were quite pleased with both.I guess it's a personal preference thing, but the amount of detail was just right. The instructions were easy to follow and the highlighted items were all worth seeing. If you're in town for more than a day or two you'd probably want to get into more detail, but if you're looking for a nice way to see the major highlights on foot with minimal stress I'd say this is a great way to do it.Separate from the book she was also a great private tour guide.

Jody Hedlund continues her moving Orphan Train series in Together Forever. Middle sister Marianne Neumann, nineteen is our main character in this story. She is now a placing agent for the Children's Aid Society. With this position Marianne is hopeful that it will help her find her younger sister Sophie.Embarking on her first placement mission to Illinois, Marianne didn't realize how this journey would change her in ways she couldn't have foreseen. She along with fellow agent Andrew 'Drew' Brady are responsible for placing thirty-one children ranging from three years to sixteen. Drew is the more experienced agent and Marianne quickly sees he "[Has] bottomless kindness and a tender, sweet way of interacting...the children adored him." (Hedlund, 61).Having been introduced to Marianne's character in the first book of the series (With You Always), I was a little hesitant as to how I'd react to her. However, the author had a good balance of explaining her previous actions, showing genuine remorse and a want to change. She portrayed her (Marianne) as an extremely likable and sympathetic character.Together Forever was an emotionally gripping story where Drew and Marianne come to realize Christ's strength is made perfect in their weakness. A gifted author, Ms Hedlund does extensive historical research making the reader feel that they've been transported to the time period the story is set in.Recently, I had the honor of meeting Ms. Hedlund. What a thrill for me! Having been a fan of her work for years it was truly a delight to come face to face. She was everything I imagined her to be and more.

First of all this was a good story about the orphans and the orphan train. However, it quickly fell into the realms of unbelief. Is it realistic to think that two unmarried young people will set off to chaperone this trip ? Maybe in the modern day but in 1912? I don't think so. Further all this passionate kissing and making out is extremely unlikely to happen right in front of the children and others. And finally, they chose to marry without discovering much about each other's characters but a lot about their lust for each other! Very disappointing!. I only scanned the last third to see how it would end.

Although I've had a interest in learning about the Orphan Train program, this book is using it as a way to suck you into reading a poorly written romance with a plot that defies all reason. I'm giving up on it at the 65% mark before my brain turns to mush.

I enjoyed this book and had trouble putting it down until the end. It was interesting to learn more about the Orphan Train and the orphans and men and women who worked tirelessly to help them. The main characters , Marianne and Drew, seemed a little too young or immature at times for their jobs, but in the 1850s and 60s, that may have been a typical age for these workers. I enjoyed watching both of them grow in maturity in their faith, as well as in wisdom.

The plot was very engaging. It was educational and a good use of time to learn about the orphan trains. But the romance that developed between Marianne and Drew was the heart of the book, and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

As with the previous book, I could not put this down until the very end. So good. Not what I expected in the Orphan Train series but just love it. You heart is with Marianne and Drew. Can't wait to start the next in the series.

Marianne and Drew are well suited for each other, and for their job of placing orphans in homes where they will be taken care of. I liked the way Drew came up with games to keep the children occupied. Drew and Marianne fell hard and romantically in love with each other. Great story.

I found myself not liking the characters of this book as much. I felt like there was more physical interaction then should be appropriate in a Christian story. Also the characters were not as likable in general.
