This book was recommended by my company, which required me to get ITIL Foundations certified. This was the only piece of study material I used, outside of practice exams, in order to pass the test. This is a great resource for anyone just learning the ITIL methodology that wants to take the Foundation exam. I also highly recommend getting your hands on as many practice questions as possible before taking the exam. The book has practice questions at the end of each chapter, and a full 40 question exam at the end of the book. The answers to the exam provide detailed reasons as to why they are correct. The practice questions are pretty close to the real test.The book is 201 pages with some forewords, 13 chapters, a section for additional information and an index. The chapters are:1- The ITIL qualification scheme2- Introducction to service management3- ITIL and the service lifecycle4- Service strategy5- Service design6- Service transition7- Service operation8- Continual service improvement9- Service management technology10- How it all fits together11- The examination and exam preparation12- Sample ITIL Foundation examination13- AnswersThe real meat of the book is chapters 4-8, which go over the ITIL lifecycle. In each chapter, the overarching phases of the lifecycle are broken down into "Purpose and Objectives," "Scope," "Business Value," and "Key Principals." Then the corresponding processes for that phase are each broken down into the same categories, and related definitions are called out in highlighted boxes. Throughout the book there is a case study about a hotel, which gives real world examples of how to apply the concepts.

After 2 weeks of reading and studying this book, I passed the ITIL Foundation exam with an 83%. I also purchased the official practice questions app for my phone. My thoughts are this book is sufficient and easy to read. This book includes quite a few diagrams on how each of the libraries line up which extremely helps you understand and put everything together. In my honest opinion, ITIL has so many ambiguous terms that tend to change in context as you traverse the different service libraries, so those diagrams really help draw it out for you. Additionally, the practice questions at the end of each chapter along with the 40 questions at the end of the book are really helpful.Overall, its a decent book and coupled with the practice questions app, you should be able to pass the ITIL Foundation exam.

All of us in our office were required to get ITIL Foundation certification. We each had to do our own research on what book to get, and each ended up getting different book, so we were able to compare books. I got this one and liked it best. It was shorter than the others but still had all the material in it. It also had a sample case study that went through the book so one could see how each area of ITIL applied to this case study, which was helpful. I found the book to be straightforward to read, and didn't put me to to sleep. Some of the other books had sentences that seems to have lots of wordiness just for the sake of being wordy, while this book said what it needed to say and no more, in decent english. There were practice questions at the end of each chapter and a full test at the end of the book.Reading this book and taking some other on-line sample tests were what I did for my exam, and I passed.After this, three of the other people in my office who had used other books/resources borrowed my book and were satisfied with it.

Read this book prior to taking the ITIL class. i am glad i did. I had no knowledge of ITIL until I took my new job and this book gave me all of the information I needed walking into the class. It helped me to retain the information better and i was able to pass the test with no issues.

Probably the absolute BEST source to use for studying for the exam. Some of the statements are said in different ways (I guess to re-enforce the intended message). Hands down the best book ever to prepare you for the exam. Read it cover to cover, take the mini quizzes at the end of each chapter and the final quiz at the back, you should be absolutely fine.There's an app in the Google Play Store that helps to supplement it and makes it a little more interesting with the revision cards.

I found this practice like any other program that tires to enhance people performance in the way they should think?I also found that I already practice most of what they are trying to teach you. It's like another class I took called TQM (Total Quality Management). So with that said I don't understand why for a moment the industry tried to revive this? It's only as good as your upper management will adhere to it. And in my tenure no management has ever practiced TQM or ITIL, as a matter of fact they fear and stay as far as they can from these practices.

Used this and training from Lynda.com to pass the test. I suggest taking multiple practice tests from different sites, especially from APMG.This book was organized well and presented the bulk of information included on the test.

Written with British spelling. It's a good foundational book, but I recommend that you seek out free online ITIL exams online as supplement. It did give me enough of a base in my knowledge to supplement a 2-day course and easily pass the ITIL exam. Others in the class were struggling because they did not study beforehand.

Starting with lyrical descriptions of the Champlain Valley and westward hills around the town of Port Henry, Farrell reviews the critical Revolutionary War events that occurred in the area. He continues with the very beginnings of human awareness of the mineral riches that lay beneath. His story progresses from the first halting, crude, accident-plagued mining attempts that grew into the Witherbee Sherman companies and culminated in the far more sophisticated, economical, safety-aware operations of Republic Steel. Kept alive by the desperate need for metals during the World Wars, the Adirondack mines' still-fruitful operations were eventually abandoned in favor of cheaper commodities from overseas. Farrell's long experience in technical management with Witherbee Sherman and then Republic enables him to describe the mining equipment and techniques in great detail. His emotional attachment to the men and the mines tints his account with a nostalgic glow, but it's easy to forgive this bias in return for the intimacy of his acquaintance with day-to-day operations as well as overall management and planning. Altogether, this book is a more-than-ordinarily worthwhile view of a facet of our culture that we often take for granted, but without which the machines that move us and protect us would not exist.

This is a very complete history of the development, functioning and finally closing of the iron mines in the Mineville and Port Henry region of New York State. Parts are very technical. I enjoyed it as I have family history in the mines and area, and I haven't known about it as that was the estranged part of my family.

Patrick Farrell's book also describes the "seamy side" of the local population and the mines along with his upbeat view of the community and the mining industry. His book is rich in technical detail, the dilemmas and quandaries of management and descriptions of the "boom town" atmosphere of the Town of Moriah when the mines were operating successfully.I wish he had written more about the Black and Jewish population of the area and their institutions, including the Black church and the Jewish synagogue which served their congregants for a time.I grew up in Port Henry and learned much that I had not known about the community and its mining industry from Farrell's book.

This book is informative but is not a how to book. Lots of examples of different restomods, along with list of where to buy parts if you want to incorporate the changes. You will get better information on the internet. The good news is that someone could do a real "How To" book and easily sell it.

The title is a bit deceptive. It should read How to Plan to Build Ford Restomod Street Machines. It has a lot of useful advice, just not any "how-to"s in it.

Good basic technical information. Provides a nice overview of modification possibilities. Gives the reader a lot of ideas to build upon. Does a good job of explaining ramifications of modifications (good and bad) and why some are necessary (for example, structural/frame mods). The only thing I did not like was the lack of color photos throughout. Often I had to look at the black and white photos several times to discern details in the parts I was viewing. The photos were often too dark (most likely from the printing process) and lacked the necessary contrast to identify details I was interested in. I think higher resolution color photos would have helped.

This book covers alot of material relating to Ford "Pro Touring" modifications. It covers tips from the simple to the complex.I bought it to apply those principles to my 1959 Edsel Ranger. I like it since there are not to many books available about Ford in a Pro Touring fashion.

I got this book to help me make improvements to my Mustang. It is touted a source to show you how to update your Mustang to drive more like today's cars. Instead I got a book that gives you ideas on what to do, but doesn't show how to do it.If you own a classic Mustang then you already know that the brakes need to be updated, that the seats could be better, and everything else this book "teaches" you. What I want is a book to show me how to do it. That is not this book.

I would have enjoyed this book more it the author had followed his previous schedule of delivering a new Don Strachey adventure every two years. (Except for that six-year lapse in the series between 1986 and 1992 - ICE BLUES and THIRD MAN OUT.) The last book in the series, Strachey's Folly was released in 1998, and the current book is set in the summer of 2000. Unfortunately, it is filled with political commentary regarding Clinton, Janet Reno, Guiliani, and the Gore/Bush presidential campaign that might have been topical had the book been published in 2001. Now, rather than setting or enhancing the scene or mood of the action, they simply date the story more than the actual three years that have past.Other than that, the plot is standard Strachey fare. Don is hired to investigate a series of crude pranks attributed to a gay radical group (that hasn't existed for 20-years) against NY shock jock, J-Bird, who broadcasts from a world of politically incorrect banter. Then the pranks are upgraded and the kidnapping starts. Working with (and sometimes not) a NYC gay cop, a gay Amish eggplant farmer and his own lover Tim in Albany, Strachey travels from Manhattan, to the Berkshires, to Brooklyn to Long Island to resolve the case. (And all without a cellphone - how old is Strachey if he can reminisce about the good old days of street corner phonebooths with folding doors where you could call for just a nickel?) It's really hard to compare this book with the earlier books in the series since it has been five years since the last book was released. It was an enjoyable read, but for some reason it felt slightly "off" to me - like something was missing. Maybe, Strachey, the author and I are just getting older. I will give it my **** rating though, because it's nice to visit old friends.

Don Strachey takes a backseat in this one to his partner Timmy, and a cast of characters that has a lot to say about almost nothing. Ominously, the book starts with a nonsensical phrase uttered repeatedly by the least developed character, Skeeter McCaslin. The rest of the story revolves around the highly dysfunctional newspaper publishing family of his late partner, Eric.There are moments of pure genius in the writing of 'Chain of Fools'. Unimaginable plot twists, and twists upon twists that you might think the author could never reliably resolve. But in the end, he does manage to tie together all the loose ends. Unfortunately, he does so in a most tedious manner. And the last chapter or two are torture to read. But if you love the Strachey stories, you have to have this one. So be tough, and buy the book.

Having seen a couple of the Strachey mysteries on film, starring Chad Allen, I decided to buy the books. Good move. This is the first one I've read, and now I know for sure that I'll enjoy them all.We have a radio 'shock jock' being terrorized by the FFF (Forces of Free Faggotry), a slightly jaded but quick witted Gay detective, and a complimentary cast of characters that seem a little more Tennessee Williams than you'd imagine mystery novel types might be. I mean, what could be more fun than a Gay eggplant farmer? A Gay AMISH eggplant farmer of course! You might pick up on 'whodunit' early on, but the path to resolving the mystery is still full of suspense and laughter. You'll love reading 'Tongue Tied'. And I can't wait to start on the next Richard Stevenson mystery.

good novel

These mysteries are very good! Very well written and with one of my favourite couples PI Don Strackey and his life partner Timmy. The particular instalment was all about the mystery, but we do learn more about Timmy, which i thought was great.

I didn't think this was quite as good as the other Donald Strachey mysteries I've read. It seemed a little contrived to me. However, there was an unexpected twist at the end. I do recommend it, though.

Stevenson's back were out of circulation for awhile and I'm thrilled to get this one and it's in good condition. I'm glad that he's writing again. Book arrived on time, thank you for not making wait.

Like all the other books in this series, it keeps you quessing the outcome. I enjoy the characters and the witty dialog. I recommend this book.

On this occasion starting – were else – with his travelogue ‘Journey to Armenia’.Osip Emilievich Mandelstam, a Jew, was born in Warsaw in 1891 and died a political prisoner in a concentration camp near Vladivostok in 1938.His journey to Armenia took place in 1930 and was arranged by his friend and protector Nikolai Bukharin, as a trip on ‘official business’ a mission. It was not a vacation, since the end in view was a piece of writing that would be of practical use in the advancement of government policy. Mandelstam’s task was to bring back an optimistic report on the pleasure that the ancient land of Armenia was experiencing as it settled into its new Soviet identity.Whether the intelligent Bukharin ever really expected to see such a piece of writing from the hand of his friend we will never know. What we do know is that Journey to Armenia was published in the Star (Zvezda) in 1933. That the responsible editor (censor) was sacked and that no syllable of Mandelstam thereafter was ever to be published in the Soviet Union during his lifetime. In 1934 he was arrested for writing (and reading) an epigram on Stalin, ‘the Kremlin highlander’ he calls him there:( … )The Kremlin highlander is mentioned.His thick fingers are fat like worms,His words hit hard like heavy weights,His cockroach’s huge moustaches laugh( … )At first Mandelstam and his wife Nadezhda are forced to live in exile. But in 1938 (at the height of the Great Purge) he is sentenced to five years in a concentration camp near Vladivostok on the charge of counter revolutionary activities. It is there that on 27th of December 1938 he dies. According to the romantic views of Ilya Ehrenburg, reading the sonnets of Petrarch next to the stove. According to an anonymous correspondent; as a mad man, feeding on garbage, filthy with long grey hair and beard, dressed in tatters, the scarecrow of the camp.The summer months of his journey to Armenia were probably his last happy months with his wife Nadezhda (Nadenka, Nadya) Yakovlevna. “Journey to Armenia” is not exactly conventional travel writing, although some passages hold description and narration, but this ‘traditional’ writing is overshadowed by meditations on painting, writing , architecture, natural science … . Many years later Nadezhda would write that the journey to Armenia had given Mandelstam back his gift for poetry.The book seems to have a rather conventional structure. In the beginning we arrive at the exotic place promised to us by the title and in the end fading out in the classical manner of travel writing that one journey has come to an end, but will be succeeded by another yet unknown journey. (not knowing that journey would be his exile and later his imprisonment near Vladivostok, how said that real life is always stranger than our weirdest imagination)In between the ‘conventional’ beginning and ending, we ‘wander’ back and forth without warning between Moscow and Armenia, between traditional narrative and meditations on art and science, life and death all in a highly personal approach. Not exactly an easy read, even tracing Mandelstam’s footsteps on the map isn’t to easy to do. I wonder if I manage to see some of his tracks back in Armenia.Armenia and the Caucasus were for Mandelstam genuine civilization, Judaic, Hellenic, Christian on the brink of Europe and Asia. Mandelstam’s way of trying to find a ‘new reality’.Poetry nor prose were for Mandelstam anything but a game of words, but a highly personal way of expressing, not precisely a guidebook. Leaving me nothing than to discover Armenia for myself I am afraid. (and of course thinking of Mandelstam and Armenia I cannot help trying my own ‘gift of poetry’ ;-) the various shades of soundthe noise of timethe tumult of the townthe hum of the citythe murmur of the woodthe sough of the forestthe surge of the seathe sound of the lakethe dying of the streamthe swoosh of Nike’s wings
