Caves are fascinating places, so I can understand the appeal to these young soccer players and their coach to go exploring. The individual stories are told with great care and respect. How their stories are woven together to show how the boys were rescued could only have been written by a first rate journalist. Well done!

Better than Matt Gutman's book, who got some basic facts wrong (so I question the accuracy of his book). This book focuses more on the unsung heros (not just the military, government, and divers) who provided resources and support to the rescue, including a few details of life in the cave from an interview with one of the kids and his father and only disclosed with the father's permission.

This is a fantastically written book. Even knowing the outcome, the suspense makes it difficult to put down. Beautiful.

I was able to pre-order the book at a discounted price. I was concerned that it would just be a rehash of the news stories, but figured that at the discounted price it was worth a shot. I was not disappointed. The author shares much that was not included in the news. The detailed account of the rescue literally took my breath away. I am a certified open water diver, not a cave diver, but I still cannot imagine how these guys rescued the kids and coach. It was a miracle Although they don't think they are heroes, I disagree, they are that and more. The book also highlights how much cooperation and love was shared among all the worlds citizens and especially the Thai people to accomplish this. In a world so filled with hate, this book truly shows that there are some good people out there. It also covers some of the difficulties and conflicts that needed to be overcome. Well written interesting story. A must-read in my opinion.

I am amazed by the rescuers and various military outlets who came together to perform this rescue. Well written.

Well written and many details not previously shared by media. A story of true international cooperation with a happy ending

I loved this book of the rescue of the 12 boys and the coach. Well written, with lots of details on the boys and the coach, and the rescue, but also on all the people involved in the rescue, and how they meticulously planned, rehearsed, and made adjustments to their strategy. And the one Australian cave rescue diver, Dr. Harry, who may very well have made all the difference in a successful rescue. This was a fascinating book that I could not put down. Disclaimer: I am not related to Liam Cochrane...as far as I know!

This book does not dig deep, but it is not intended to. If you are looking to understand the latest trends in high availability architecture this is an excellent book. I feel this book is for business personnel looking to improve their knowledge , experienced software engineers that want to move away from legacy patterns, software engineers that are looking to become systems architects, and engineers just entering the software development path. This book is a good place to pull check lists and double check that your plan for development does not have gaps that are easy to fill, but could cost you dearly if you don't address them early.

Do not recommend this book if you are experienced in the field. Even for beginners, this book only provide a very shallow description on various topics and doesn't do a good job explaining each of the concepts. I don't think it will be that useful anyway. The content is also very repetitive.

Hi. The author of the previous review looked at an early version of the book (the "first three chapters" version). The book is now complete and has 26 chapters of, I hope, useful and relevant content. Take a look and certainly let me know what you think!

The book provides a good high level overview of cloud based microservice architectures. Not a lot of advanced information. Would be useful for new/mid-level readers.

I'm biased, because I know the author. That said, Lee has a bunch of experience helping enterprises working on large-scale projects. This book is not technology-specific ("get AWS T-4 servers") but higher-level ("plan for X to happen"). It's very valuable for when you want to GO BIG.

Not a lot of depth.

My company purchased this book. This is a pleasantly-fast read. For somebody new to the game, this is a solid review of high-level common sense ideals and approaches. It is like an "Intro to XYZ" book you would see in a college sophomore's stack of first-semester books. For experienced admins or designers, you have probably gained all the wisdom there is in this book through sheer experience. It is slightly over-priced in my opinion for the amount of knowledge transfer either group would glean from the pages. It is about a $20 value IMHO.

The book provides a very high-level overview of the fundamental aspects of building highly-available service-based information systems, for cloud-based or on-premises systems. The overview is pretty good, but don't expect a lot of details. The author's experience based on hard lessons learned from his years working for AWS and New Relic definitely shows, and some chapters get much more attention than the others.I've particularly liked chapters on risk management and mitigation, especially the discussion about creating and managing a risk matrix, as well as the chapter dedicated to clarifying concepts of likelihood and severity. You don't see this topic taken this seriously in many texts discussing the building of highly available and scalable systems, but without proper risk management mindset, you are almost always one step away from a big mess waiting to happen, without you having planned for it.The sections on microservices are rather light, and you'll definitely need another book on this important architectural pattern. The chapters and discussion on establishing and clarifying service ownership, service tiers, and service-level agreements again provide a good overview, and draws attention to the importance of percentiles when it comes to establishing baselines for performance and checking if things are within expected bounds. To some experienced readers these will sound pretty basic, but nevertheless I think these discussions have educational value for many readers. The last part of the book is looking at things from cloud computing, and even though the chapters are short, the author's guidance provide valuable experience summary for different types of use cases, as well as drawing attention to pitfalls in this complex world of computing. Conclusion: If you want to a good overview of how current scalable, highly available, microservices-based software intensive applications are built, operated, risk-managed using cloud computing, this book accomplishes this objective. But if you want more details, you'll have to dive into other books.
